DHAA News - June 2009

Jo Reeves Jo Reeves, Dental Hygienist, has been honoured with the Member of the Order of Australia for her work with migrant families.:

Quote from the paper " Mrs Josephine Dawn Reeves - For service to dental health as an

hygienist and through education programs for migrant families"

Josephine Reeves is an exceptional person. Her generosity of heart and genuine interest in the health and well being of immigrants to our country transcended what would usually be expected from her day to day employment. Jo opened her heart and home to numerous people in need and assisted so many, in her own time and at her own expense, to assimilate into Australian society.

A genuine caring nature and desire for social justice has seen Jo volunteer to work in underprivileged countries such as Vietnam which then subsequently enabled her to better relate to and develop processes and programmes that benefited so many emigrants from diverse cultures who settled in South Australia.

Even in retirement Jo continued to be active in developing translated educational material for use by volunteers to PNG and Solomon Islands, a project that she did in collaboration with the University of Adelaide, Dental School. Jo continues to provide support to homeless, underprivileged and disadvantaged groups and still opens her home to emergency refugees and actively assists in the resettlement of refugee families

Congratulations Jo
